A couple of really important matters have come to our attention – so passing these on.
Fonterra has reviewed both its 19/20 and 20/21 milk pricing schedules.
- For the 19/20 season the price range has been reviewed to $7.10 to $7.20 which means a mid point of $7.15. In other words a 5 cent drop, but subject to the September report of the Annual Result. This means 5 cents less final is paid in August.
- The 20/21 season milk price schedule is now based on a range of $5.90 to $6.90 with a mid point of $6.40. Thats up 25 cents per kgMS – with the advanced increased 15 cents immediately and then 5 cents in April and the last 5 cent increase is September 2021. Naturally it is early days with 20/21 milk price still expected to move within the $1 range given.
Wintering of dairy cows is being scrutinised by the public and MPI. Be mindful that 20cm of pugging on 50% of the paddock is now the legislated directive. Despite the wet conditions which add to the challenge, adoption of management practices that ensure this line is not crossed is strongly urged. Naturally roadside grazing is most visible to the public, and complaints have been registered this winter as a result of increased awareness – but lets make sure best practise is across the entire wintering area.
